Feel Good Friday #7

                                                    Pinterest.com

This week I watched a documentary on Channel 4 called Fabulous Fashionistas which I found so inspirational. If you didn’t see it, in a nutshell the programme was about six women with an average age of 80 who refused to let age define them, they had their own unique sense of style, did what they wanted and didn’t conform to the preconceived ideas that society has about what an older person should be like. What’s more, they were all absolutely amazing people!
This got me thinking about the topic of age. Why should age define a person?! When I’m an old lady I want to be like them, to have my own unique sense of style, to still do the things I want to do. Anybody who knows me knows that I’m not one to always conform to society's ideas of what you should and shouldn’t do. Why? Well because I’m an individual, just like everybody else in the world and I don’t see why anybody should make up rules on how anybody else should live their life. I’m aware this might make me sound as if I live some sort of crazy life, I really don’t – I just make my own rules instead of following other peoples.
So there you have it, my inspiration for the week. I just hope that when I’m older I still live life the way I do now. I hope that I’m even braver than I am now and do more things, I want to be an old lady who has brightly coloured hair and wears purple lipstick - that’s my little pact that I’ve made with myself. Did anybody else see the documentary and if so what were your thoughts?

The Beauty Blogger Tag!

Yesterday beauty4free2u tagged me to do the Beauty Blogger Tag, so here it is! She has a fab blog where you can find information on free beauty samples as well as reviews and beauty tips.
Rules for the Beauty Blogger Tag:
·         State that this tag was created by The Beau Bow
·         Tag some more beauty bloggers
·         Title this as I’ve done to show what the tag is about

1.      Name a beauty routine you rarely do.
Hmm, I’m fairly meticulous about my beauty routine so I don’t really know, I can sometimes be lazy and not use a face mask every week but I do try to most of the time.
2.      Is washing your makeup brushes something you do regularly?
Yes, my skin can be quite sensitive and I’m a total hygiene freak. I use Johnsons baby shampoo to clean them.
3.      How long will you last with chipped nail varnish?
As soon as it starts to chip I take it off, otherwise I’ll just pick at the bits that are chipped and leave flakes of nail varnish everywhere, nice!
4.      How long do you put off buying/replacing a beauty or nail polish product even if you need it (i.e. top coat, foundation, etc)?
I tend to replace the product before it has run out to save the stress. Plus I like nice new things.
5.      What is your worst beauty habit?
Not leaving my spots alone.
6.      Name something none beauty related that you put off all the time?

Tidying. I’m a clean freak but I’m the messiest person alive.

7.      When going out somewhere do you leave getting ready to the last minute or not?
Nope, I know even if I give myself enough time I’ll be late so I try to give myself plenty of time to get ready.
8.      Can you commit to spending bans?
Hmm, yes if I needed to but I do like to shop I can’t lie. I’m good at budgeting though.
9.      How organised are your makeup and nail polish collections?

They’re organised in the sense that I know where everything is, to anyone else it would look messy. An organised mess if you will.

10.  What is the longest time you have gone without writing a blog post?
A couple of weeks last month when I was away on holiday!

My skin saviour!

A couple of weeks ago my skin broke out worse than it has since I was a teenager. I’ve always suffered from the odd blemish but this was bad, so bad that I decided to ditch the makeup for a little bit (which I never do) and get myself to the chemist to see if they had anything that could sort my poor face out!
So the lady behind the counter suggested a cream called Quinoderm 10 for the treatment of acne and all I will say is - if you suffer from breakouts you need to try this! Within a few days my spots had completely cleared up and the best part is this little tube of amazingness (not a word but so what – it should be) is only £2.49!
The only downside to this product is that it makes the dye come out of fabrics so be sure to wash your hands after using it and use an old pillow case for bed. It can also be quite drying so I’d only recommend it for topical use on the places it’s needed, I got a little carried away and smothered it all over my face and ended up with dry patches – not sexy. However I will definitely be repurchasing this cream in future when my skin decides to turn on me, I’ve never known anything to work quite like it.

Feel Good Friday #6

                                                                         tumblr.com

I was chatting to a girl at a makeup counter this week and I distinctly remember her having this quote tattooed on her arm. She was a really nice, helpful girl and as I read the quote I thought ‘fair play, you seem like a really happy, positive person’.
Then when searching for inspiration for this week’s Feel Good Friday I came across the quote again and thought ‘that’s the one’, simply because loving your life is such an important thing to do, yet something that at times can be very challenging.
For me, the key to loving your life is appreciating all the good things in it. By that I mean all the people who you love, who love you, all the things that you do or have that make you happy and so on. Taking a moment to appreciate that life is precious and can so easily be taken from you makes you realise what you value the most and what aspects of your life deserve your attention. Happiness is most definitely a choice and if there’s ever something in my own life that I’m unhappy with, I change it! If there are people that bring me down, I try not to be around them if I can help it, if I’m unhappy in any aspect of my life, I will try doing things a different way and giving something else a go. Nothing in life lasts forever and that can be both a blessing and a curse, however it’s the transient nature of life that makes it such a gift and one that I always try my best to make the most out of.

Review: bare Minerals Customisable Get Started Kit

Lately I have been suffering from breakouts really badly and so I’ve been looking for a foundation that doesn’t clog my pores, and all I can say is – wow, I have certainly found it!
All of bare Minerals cosmetics are made 100% from minerals and therefore contain absolutely no chemicals whatsoever, for this reason they claim that not only will their products not clog up your pores, but that they will actually improve your skin.
Now I never thought I’d find a foundation that is both extremely natural looking, yet high coverage at the same time, the two don’t usually go hand in hand, but this one does exactly that. When wearing these products on my face I feel as if I have no makeup on whatsoever, they are so light! Yet they still manage to cover any blemishes or red patches I may have. Not only that but the products actually start to look better throughout the day on my skin. Whereas any other foundation I’ve ever tried has tended to go oily as the day wears on, this one doesn’t, it just looks like I have a natural glow to my skin. I am seriously impressed.
The kit retails at £50 and comprises of a 15ml version of the prime time foundation primer, this is smaller than the original size which is 30ml. A foundation of your choice (this is the customisable aspect of the kit) I went for the original SPF 15 foundation in medium beige. Warmth, which is a lovely all over bronzer for all skin tones, although it is very pigmented so you only need to use a little bit. Mineral Veil, this is a translucent powder used to set the foundation and bronzer. A Full Flawless Face Brush, this is used to apply the foundation and Mineral Viel. A Flawless Application Face brush, which is used to apply the bronzer. A Maximum coverage Concealer Brush, instead of using a separate concealer you simply use your foundation which doubles up as both in the places you need it and apply with this brush. I think this is a great idea as you don’t need to worry about having to match your concealer up to your foundation colour – result, and it actually works. Finally the kit also contains a ‘Get Started’ booklet and DVD which explain and show you how to use the products as well as how to perfect the ‘swirl, tap, buff’ technique that is used to apply them.
All in all, I can’t rave about this kit enough! Whether you have clear skin and only need light coverage or you suffer from breakouts and need something that won’t irritate your face but will cover blemishes, these products are definitely worth a try.

Kate & Gavin's Travels - Ireland

Recently I went away to County Kerry in Ireland with my lovely boyfriend Gavin, who just so happens to be Irish (although he’s from Dublin, not Kerry). The scenery was beautiful and it was such a relaxing holiday, we went for long walks, we rented a boat and went fishing on Lough Currane, we got wet suits and went body boarding which was such a giggle, and on a night time we would walk up to the local town where we drank Guinness and ate amazing food to our hearts content!

On our drive to where we were staying we came across lots of rocks stacked on top of each other which Gav informed me where made by people who had travelled past that area as a mark that they had been there, which other travellers could add to. Here’s ours that we made, we broke the rules and made a whole one by ourselves the crazy rebels that we are haha.

Back at our holiday home after a meal and a couple of drinks in the local pub wearing our his and hers Arran jumpers - because we’re just that cool! (In all seriousness Gav’s gran lent me this jumper and I’d have been lost without it, it gets a bit windy up those mountains – who would have guessed!)

We have quite a few places on our ‘to go’ list and so I may just make a feature of ‘Kate & Gavin’s Travels’ – watch this space!
